I remember my worst cooking disaster. I was a newlywed of course. I had received this beautiful set of glass cannisters at my wedding and they were proudly displayed on my counter top. My husbands parents were coming to dinner for the first time and amazingly all went well….at least until desert.
After a great meal of roast chicken, shrimp salad and garlic bread (really the only things I could cook well) - I marched out of the kitchen with a beautiful warm home baked apple pie! My husband cut each of us a slice and I scooped ice cream on top. My father in law took a huge bite and I saw his eyes bug out… Oh no! I quickly popped a morsel into my mouth and just as quickly spat it into my plate. AAHHGGG! What had happened?
I raced into the kitchen to find that I had mixed up my beautiful glass cannisters. I had put salt in the sugar and sugar in the salt cannister. My father in law had just bit into a pie with 2 and 1/2 cups of salt in it - instead of sugar…..I was SO embarrassed, but after we all had a good laugh - we opted for an ice cream ONLY finish to our meal!
